Focus First, Scale Smart - Tune in to my feature on the GoodGist Podcast

I recently sat down with the team at GoodGist to talk through some of the decisions, pivots, and growing pains that got Bulu to where it is today.

The episode is called The Focus-First Founder, which - honestly - hits home more than I expected. Because the older (and hopefully wiser) I get, the more I realize that doing fewer things really well beats doing everything at once. Every. Single. Time.

We covered a lot. Fulfillment, AI, pivoting, scaling, focus, and figuring out how to grow without losing what makes you great.

Paul Jarrett and Chandan Goswami chat about using AI to make logistics and the sales process at Bulu better.

A few takeaways from the conversation:

  • Less isn't lazy - it's leverage.

I used to think we had to do everything to compete. Now I know better. Bulu became a lot stronger when we started doubling down on the services that actually solved problems for our clients.

  • Fulfillment that flexes.

We figured out how to scale without losing our ability to adapt. It's not about building a massive machine - it's about building one that moves with your clients.

  • AI is not your strategist.

AI helps our team free up hours of time every week, but it's not writing business plans. It's sorting CRM data. It's helping sales prioritize. It's giving me time back to focus on people and process.

  • Hard calls post-pivot.

There were moments when we had to make tough decisions - about ownership, direction, clients. But looking back, those decisions gave us the clarity and momentum we needed.

My honest takeaway? AI should save you time.

The market doesn't care what you want to do. It tells you what it needs. If you listen close enough - and have the guts to follow that signal - you'll find your lane.

Also: if your AI tool(s) aren't saving you hours of time per week... you're probably using the wrong one.

One quote that sums it up:

"If the software tells me we've got 10 open pallet spaces, I don't need a meeting - I need a list of the 10 best clients to fill it. That's where AI saves us time."

Check it out:

If you've ever tried to scale a logistics operation, pivot a company, or just want the real scoop on what it takes to run a modern 3pl/5pl in today's ecommerce world...

And if you're into this kind of stuff, I’ve got more posts just like it on the blog.

Let me know what you think—seriously. I read every message.
